FAQ
Q. Are your pickups sold in any retail stores?
A. We will only be selling in a couple select stores and those discussions are currently underway. Right now, you can purchase our stock and custom pickups at Capitol Guitars in St. Paul, MN. We are very proud to have them on board as our first retail partner.
Q. Do you do repairs/rewinds?
A. Yes, we can do repairs and rewinds, provided we can find the original pickup specs to match. The process typically consists of disassembly, coil removal, cleaning, rewind, wiring and then potting. It’s very much like building a new pickup with old parts. Prices vary between $45 in the case of a single coil or P90, to around $75 for a humbucker. Prices for repair and rewind work are set per job and agreed upon before any work begins.
Q. Can you re-pot/pot my pickup?
A. Yes. The cost is $20 per pickup or $30 for two. Each additional pickup beyond two is $8 extra.
Q. Can you swap my 2-conductor braided wire for a 4-conductor to allow me to coil split my humbucker?
A. Yes. The cost for this modification is $55 and that includes careful tape removal, disassembly, de-soldering of the old wire, rewiring, potting (if necessary) and taping. Please understand that some older pickups may be too fragile for this modification as removal of the coil tape can damage the coil. We don’t want to damage your stuff!
Q. Can you make me a pickup that looks like (insert your favorite model)?
A. While we do have a set list of features we offer for custom builds, we can build just about anything. Open top pickup and radiator covers are just a couple that come to mind. We would just need to discuss these possibilities with you and agree on a price. It never hurts to ask!
Q. Will you build me a pickup but NOT pot it?
A. Yes, we can do that, though we recommend against it. Potting not only kills the microphonic feedback in a pickup, but more importantly, it protects and solidifies the whole assembly, especially the delicate coils.
Q. Why no P90’s or mini-humbuckers?
A. We have several P90’s and mini-humbuckers in development right now and will be releasing them in the coming months.
Q. Do you do pickup installation?
A. Yes, we can install your pickups for you. The cost is $50 a pickup or $75 for a set. That price includes installation, testing and restringing of your guitar. Please visit Rademacher Guitars for other repair services we offer.
Q. Will you over/under wind any of your pickup models?
A. While we won’t do that to any of our current model pickup designs, we are open to discussing a custom wind based on one of our designs. Who knows, if it turns out awesome, we may add it to the lineup and name it after you!
Q. I have an idea for a really crazy custom pickup, can you make it for me?
A. Possibly! Reach out and let us know what you have in mind.
After giving the new pickup a thorough workout, I have to say, F@$K YES! Sounds as good or better than the last one I got from you! Tried it alongside my 498t and it had that same smoothness but more attitude. Thank you!
